La Porte ISD recently named CSCOPE Outstanding Mentor District

La Porte ISD earned the title CSCOPE Outstanding Mentor District for its leadership in guiding other districts as they begin using the kindergarten through 12th grade curriculum management system.

According to Lindy Haley, curriculum and instruction assessment coordinator for ESC Region VI, La Porte ISD was chosen for the honor for providing service and assistance to incoming CSCOPE districts. She and Melinda Perzan, Region VI component director for curriculum, instruction and assessments, presented the award to La Porte ISD at a school board meeting.

Haley praised the efforts of Linda Wadleigh, deputy superintendent for curriculum and instruction, and Isela Montes, executive director of elementary education, for their work in helping other districts.

“Being a mentor meant that (Linda and Isela) were always willing to answer questions for new districts coming on and were always there to give ideas and support,” Haley says. “They were wonderful at helping other districts.”

Haley noted that La Porte ISD also agreed to be a hub for area districts, offering training at the district every six weeks.

According to information from ESC Region VI, CSCOPE is a comprehensive, customizable, user-friendly curriculum management system built on the most current research-based practices in the field. Haley told board members that the curriculum is currently in more than 600 districts across Texas.
