From Our Readers

Riney,

I loved your “Whatever happened to Bob?” column (“The Back Page,” June 2010). In my high school class — a “hundred” years ago — we had several guys like Bob. I wonder where they are, what they are doing or what they did. I’m sure that some of the people who didn’t fit the mold to be accepted probably accomplished some really good things, just as Bob did.

I always enjoy your articles. We are about the same age, so the time when we grew up is a time never to be repeated. Your writing reflects the values that we had back in the days of Ozzie and Harriet, etc.

Again, I really enjoy your articles so much. It was the best one in the magazine!

Law Dawg,

Great article in the July/August issue of Texas School Business magazine (“The Law Dawg – unleased! Better think before you charge”). You call ’em how you see them, and I admire that. We need more cool heads like yours in this state. Hang in there. Election fun starts soon, and legislative fun starts shortly after that.

Regarding the possible seizure of local fund balances by the state, I have a picture of a flag in my office. It’s the Gonzales “Come and Take It!” flag with the words “Fund Balance” at the top. I will designate and reserve it. I will transfer it to other funds. I will all but give it away or spend it down before I let the legislature just take it from us.

My motto for 2010-2011 is “Come and take it, if you are man enough!”

Katie,

Each month I look forward to receiving Texas School Business. Like TSPRA, you are about communicating the positive things happening in our public schools! It is great to connect with friends through your publication and to celebrate their advancements. Your calendar is my primary tool for knowing what is going on around the state. I appreciate all that you do to spotlight everything great about our Texas public schools, as well as keeping the readers informed.
