Aledo ISD
Steve Steve BondBond is the new director of transportation through a shared services agreement with Dallas County Schools. A 35-year veteran of school transportation, he has been a bus driver, a consultant on transportation matters for school districts, and a bus and bus safety equipment salesman. Prior to his position with school districts in northern Tarrant County, he was transportation manager for Granbury ISD. Bond is a graduate of Texas Christian University.

Wes Corzine, who has been with the district since 2004, is the new assistant principal of Stuard Elementary School. He began as a TAKS remediation specialist at McAnally Intermediate School, a position he held until this year, when he divided his time at McAnally between the dual roles of administrative intern and ESL teacher. His bachelor of behavioral sciences degree was earned from Hardin-Simmons University, and he is completing his master’s degree in educational administration from Tarleton State University.

Aledo ICheryl JonesSD’s new web master is Cheryl Jones, who will also serve in an administrative role at Aledo High School. An educator with 11 years of experience, she received a bachelor of science degree from Tarleton State University and is now completing her master’s degree in curriculum and instruction.

 

 

Dan Manning is new to Aledo ISD, taking on the role of executive Dan Manningdirector of administration. He was most recently Keller ISD’s executive director of intermediate and middle schools. He was awarded a bachelor’s degree in education from the University of North Texas and a master’s degree in educational administration from Tarleton State University.

 

 

The new assistant principal of Coder Elementary School is Margie MantheiMargie Manthei. Prior to accepting her new assignment, she was a diagnostician at that school. Before coming to Aledo, she served as a diagnostician at Permian High School in Ector County ISD. She has worked as a teacher, counselor and family services coordinator and has contracted to facilitate in-service workshops with school districts across the country and for the Bureau of Education in Hong Kong. Manthei received her master of education degree from Eastern New Mexico University; she also attended The University of Texas – Permian Basin. She holds mid-management administrator and superintendent certifications.

June Norman joins the district as its new communications June Normanofficer. In the private sector, she has held positions with PNM Resources, Burlington Northern Railroad in Fort Worth and with the Fort Worth Convention and Visitors Bureau. Her bachelor’s degree in behavioral sciences was awarded from Hardin-Simmons University, and she is accredited in public relations as well.

 

The new principal of Aledo Middle School is Dan Peterson. He Dan Petersonpreviously served in Crowley and Lewisville ISDs. Peterson received a bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Nebraska and a master’s degree in educational administration from Tarleton State University.

 

 

Amy Sadler is the new principal of Coder Elementary School, Amy Sadlerwhere she has served as a part-time assistant principal and special education teacher. Her most recent position was serving as assistant principal of Stuard Elementary. She also has been a special education teacher at McAnally Intermediate School. Formerly with Hurst-Euless-Bedford ISD, Sadler earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Sam Houston State University and a master’s degree in education from Hardin-Simmons University.

Arlington ISD
Marilyn Evans
is the new assistant superintendent of Marilyn Evanspersonnel. An educator since 1988, she began her career in Dallas ISD as a teacher and joined Arlington ISD the following year as a team leader at Starrett Elementary School. In 1992, she became assistant principal of Williams Elementary, where she remained until taking an assistant principal position in Rockville, Md., in 1993. In 1995,Evans returned to Arlington as the district’s science curriculum coordinator; a year later she made the move to Crouch Elementary, where she served as principal. In 1998, she was promoted to director of elementary personnel, and in 2000 she was named executive director of elementary curriculum and instruction. Evans holds a bachelor’s degree from Stanford University and a master’s degree from the University of North Texas.

Brownsville ISD
Carl Montoya
has been reappointed by Gov. Rick Perry as Carl Montoyachairman of the Texas School Safety Center Board. Currently serving as an area assistant superintendent overseeing the Hanna Cluster schools in Brownsville ISD, he is also a certified peace officer and has been involved with the coordination of law enforcement activities for several school districts. The Texas School Safety Center Board was created to assist school districts in developing anti-violence activities, anti-bullying curricula, and training for educators and law enforcement personnel in anti-terrorism and other school safety issues.

Carroll ISD/Grapevine-Colleyville ISD
Ginny Melara
is the new transportation director for Carroll and Grapevine-Colleyville ISDs; the two districts have a shared services agreement that allows for one director to operate both districts’ transportation programs. Melara, who has almost 30 years’ experience in student transportation, has completed numerous courses in emergency management and multi-hazard planning for schools and is certified by the Texas Association of Pupil Transportation. Additionally, she has served as president of both the regional and state student transportation associations.

Channelview ISD
The new superintendent is Greg Ollis, who, until his new appointment, served as interim superintendent and assistant superintendent of administration for the district.

Coahoma ISD
The new district superintendent is Randy Brown, former Randy Brownsuperintendent of Motley County ISD, where he served since 2005. He began his career in New Deal ISD as a teacher and coach in the district’s junior high and high school, and then he served in the same capacity in Bastrop ISD. He next spent six years with Fort Stockton and Mesquite ISDs. He was the assistant principal of Levelland High School, his alma mater, then principal of Capitol Elementary in that district before making the move to Motley. Brown holds a bachelor of science degree from Eastern New Mexico State University, a master of education degree from Texas A&M University at Commerce, and a superintendent certification from Texas Tech University, where he is completing his doctorate in the school’s educational leadership program.

Damon ISD
The new superintendent is Donald Rhodes. He comes to Damon from his position as superintendent of Chester ISD.

Eagle Mountain-Saginaw ISD
Dawn Battle is the new principal of Elkins Elementary School. Dawn BattleAn educator for 13 years, she has most recently served as an assistant principal. She holds a master of education degree in administration from Tarleton State University.

 

 


Leading Parkview Elementary School is new principal Shelly Shelly ButlerButler, arriving at this position after serving the past four years as an assistant principal in the district. She has 14 years’ experience in education, having earned her principal certification from the University of North Texas.

 

 

The new assistant superintendent for educational support Barbara Downingservices is Barbara Downing. She has spent the past five years as an assistant superintendent and has worked a total of 19 years in education. She was awarded a master of education degree in administration from Sul Ross State University.

 

 

Brenda Evans holds the post of director of counseling and Brenda Evansintervention services for the district. She has been an educator for 23 years, the past several as a lead counselor. Her master of counseling degree was awarded from Southwestern Oklahoma State University.

 

 

The district’s new director of staff development is DeAnne DeAnne HainlenHainlen, an educator with 17years’ experience, the past two as an assistant principal. She earned a master of education degree from the University of North Texas.

 

 


Sheri Larson
is the new principal of Lake Pointe Elementary Sheri LarsonSchool. She has been an educator for 11 years, and for the past three years she has served as assistant principal of Eagle Mountain Elementary School. She is a graduate of Texas Christian University, where she earned a master of education degree in administration.

 


Angela Kraus
leads Northbrook Elementary School as its new Angela Krausprincipal. She spent more than three years as an administrator at the secondary level. An educator for 18 years, she earned a master of education degree in administration from Tarleton State University.

 

 

The new director of fine arts is Robert Stovall, an educator with Robert Stovall30 years of experience. His master of music education degree was awarded from Angelo State University.

 

 

 

El Paso ISD
Taryn Bailey heads Guerrero Elementary School. Most recently, Taryn Baileyshe was principal of Cielo Vista Elementary, one of the district’s six TEA-rated “exemplary” schools. She has been an educator for 18 years, three of those as a principal. Her bachelor’s degree in education was earned from The University of Texas at El Paso, and her master’s degree in education from Sul Ross State University.

 

John Tanner is the new principal of Austin High School. With John Tannernine years of administrative experience, including six as a principal, he holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Texas Christian University, a master of divinity from the Jesuit School of Theology at Berkeley in California and a doctorate in educational leadership from The University of Texas at El Paso. Before taking his new post at Austin High, he was principal of Ross Middle School for four years.

Burleson Elementary School has Pamela Howard as its new Pamela Howardprincipal. A former principal in Clint ISD, she graduated from The University of Texas with a bachelor of science degree in education. She holds a master of education degree in educational leadership and supervision from The University of Texas at El Paso, where she is currently a doctoral student.

 

Amy Serafini comes to her role as principal of Douglass Amy SerafiniElementary School from Sgt. Roberto Ituarte Elementary School in Socorro ISD, where she was assistant principal. Her bachelor’s degree in elementary education was earned from Lock Haven University in Pennsylvania, and her master of science degree in education from Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pa.

 


ESC Region 1

Melissa Aguero-Ramirez has been named director of human Melissa Aguero-Ramirezresources for ESC Region 1 in Edinburg. In addition to her responsibilities in human resources, she also will provide technical support and guidance to human resources departments in the region’s 37 school districts and charter school systems. She will assist in recruiting, retaining and certifying qualified teachers for schools in the area. Ramirez holds both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in business administration from The University of Texas – Pan American. She has spent the past nine years as human resources director for Mercedes and Progreso ISDs and Mission CISD.

Fayetteville ISD
Ronald Eilers is the district’s new superintendent. Hereturns to his home district after 26 years in education, which began in Huntsville ISD. In 1986, he began his administrative career, serving in Onalaska, Huntsville, Brenham and Bellville ISDs. Eilers graduated from Blinn Junior College with an associate of arts degree. He earned a bachelor of arts degree in teaching, a master’s degree in education and his mid-management certification at Sam Houston State University.

Frisco ISD
Melissa Fouche has been named executive director of Melissa Fouchetechnology and information services. She has been a technology teacher and administrator for15 years, 10 of those in Frisco. Her degrees were earned from Oklahoma State University and the University of North Texas.

 

 

Anna Koenig, principal of Boals Elementary, has been tapped to Anna Koenigserve a second term as president-elect of the Texas Elementary Principals and Supervisors Association. A graduate of Texas A&M University and the University of North Texas, she joined Frisco ISD in 1998 and has a total of 17 years’ experience in public education.

Krum ISD
Former Krum ISD Superintendent Troy Hamm has retired  from Troy Hammeducation and joined VLK Architects, which specializes in educational design, as the company’s in-house education expert. With 30 years’ experience as a teacher, coach and superintendent, Hamm is well-suited for his new role. As superintendent, he added extracurricular activities for students and raised the amount of program funds to more than $7.4 million. Hamm says he hopes to bring a new perspective to education architecture.

“It’s about seeing it from the educator's point of view rather than just viewing it as a design process," he says.

Lockhart ISD
Jose L. Parra is Lockhart ISD’s new superintendent. For the past three years, he has served as assistant superintendent of Kerrville ISD. Prior to his role in Kerrville, he was a campus administrator in Wylie ISD for eight years, five of those as a principal. He began his career as a teacher in Seguin and New Braunfels ISDs. Parra’s bachelor’s and master’s degrees were earned from The University of Texas at San Antonio, and his mid-management certification from Trinity University. His doctorate was awarded from Columbia University in New York. He is certified as a superintendent in New York, Pennsylvania and Texas.

Lubbock ISD
Lubbock ISD announces 18 new administrators for the 2008-2009 school year. They are: Lynn Akin, principal, Coronado High School; Sam Ayers, assistant superintendent for elementary education; Will Burks, associate principal, Lubbock High School; Gionet Cooper, assistant principal, Coronado High School; Heidi Dye, principal, Hutchinson Middle School; Gary Fortenberry, coordinator, K-12 science; Ryan Freeman, assistant principal, Dunbar Middle School; Larry Hines, principal, Mackenzie Middle School; Karla Mann, assistant principal, Wolffarth Elementary School; Eric McKnight, executive director of research, development and gifted and talented programs; Justin Newman, assistant principal for instruction, Hutchinson Middle School; Kim Perry, principal, School for Young Women Leaders; Blake Rieber, coordinator, Advanced Technology Center; Amy Stephens, principal, Bozeman Elementary School; Tim Thomas, assistant principal, Hutchinson Middle School; Chad Townley, assistant principal for instruction, O.L. Moulton ISD
George Hext leads Moulton High School as its principal. Anative George Hextof the Rio Grande Valley, his first career was as a U.S. Air Force pilot. After earning his doctoral degree from Syracuse University in 1996, he taught at The University of Texas for three years, followed by working as a high school teacher for six years. He most recently was assistant principal of Cuero High School.

 


Moulton
Elementary School has Nathan Brown as its new Nathan Brownprincipal. He has spent the past two years as an assistant principal in Centerville ISD. A native of California, he relocated to Texas in 1983 as a construction business owner. After earning his bachelor of science degree and teaching certification from Texas State University, he taught elementary school for seven years and junior high for six years, with a specialization in science, in Cuero ISD. His master’s degree and principal certification were earned from the University of Houston at Victoria. 

Pflugerville ISD
Audrey Ware is the new principal of Dessau Elementary School, replacing Denise Monzingo, who was earlier named principal of Park Crest Middle School. Ware’s education career began as a private-school teacher in 1983. She joined Big Spring ISD in1987, where she taught until 2000. She also has been the principal of Lamesa ISD’s North Elementary, leading the school to double-digit increases in state testing scores. Before joining Pflugerville ISD, she was principal of Franklin Elementary School in Ardmore, Okla. Ware holds a bachelor of science degree in elementary education and a master’s degree in education from Angelo State University.

Richardson ISD
The new principal of Lake Highlands High School is Walter Kelly, formerly principal of West Junior High School. Prior to joining Richardson ISD, he was principal of a high school and middle school in Telluride, Colo., an assistant principal in Austin ISD and Eanes ISD. He began his career as a secondary science teacher and curriculum specialist. His bachelor’s degrees in biology and philosophy were earned at Baylor University; his master’s degree in educational administration is from Texas State University. This past summer, Kelly was one of 100 Texas administrators selected to participate in a leadership program held at the Harvard Graduate School of Education Principals’ Center.

Round Rock ISD
Mary Morris
, most recently a special education administrator with Georgetown ISD, has been named principal of Live Oak Elementary School. An educator for 25 years, she has spent the past 16 years serving as an assistant principal and principal. Her bachelor of science degree in elementary education was awarded from The University of Texas at El Paso, and her master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from National-Louis University in Evanston, Ill.

Salado ISD
Billy Wiggins, most recently superintendent of Port Aransas ISD, is Salado ISD’s new superintendent.

Springlake-Earth ISD
Denver Crum is the new superintendent for the district. With 14 years in public education in Texas, including serving as a special education teacher, this begins his ninth year as an administrator. He most recently worked four years as the principal of Friona High School. His bachelor’s degree is from the University of North Texas, and his master’s degree in education is from Texas Woman’s University. He earned his superintendent certification from West Texas A&M University.

Stratford ISD
The new superintendent is Jerry Birdsong, previously the Jerry Birdsongsuperintendent of Silverton ISD. A graduate of West Texas State University, he holds a master of education degree from West Texas A&M University. His career includes 10 years as a teacher and coach, followed by four years as principal of Bovina High School and six years as principal of Denver City High School.

 

Texas City ISD
Bob Brundett
has been named superintendent. He comes to Texas City ISD from Killeen ISD, where he served as an assistant superintendent of instructional leadership for middle schools. An educator for 29 years, he began his career in Santa Fe ISD. In 1996, he became the state coordinator for Texas middle school education for ESC Region 13. Six years later, he moved to Spring ISD, where he was executive director for secondary school improvement. A graduate of the University of Houston at University Park, he holds a master’s degree from the University of Houston at Clear Lake; his doctoral degree was earned from Texas A&M University.

Tom Bean ISD
Kathy Garrison
is the new superintendent. A veteran educator with more than 30 years of experience, she began her career in Clarksville ISD as a teacher and a coach. She later became a secondary principal and, ultimately, superintendent. Her most recent assignment was in Valley View ISD. Garrison’s bachelor of science degree was awarded from Stephen F. Austin State University, and her master’s degree from Texas A&M University at Commerce. Additionally, she holds certification in all-level physical education, English, health, special education and elementary education.

Venus ISD
The new superintendent is Bobby Matthews. He was most recently superintendent of Hawley ISD.

Veribest ISD
Michael Steck leads the district as its new superintendent. He was most recently with Hawley ISD, where he served as a high school principal.

Waco ISD
Richard Edison
leads South Waco Elementary School as its Richard Edisonprincipal, coming to this position from his role as assistant principal of Bell’s Hill Elementary, where he served since 2004. He also has been a teacher and coach at University High School. He received his bachelor of science degree in education from Baylor University and his master of science degree in education from Tarleton State University, where he is completing his doctorate in educational leadership.


University Middle School
has Rick Hartley as its new principal. Rick HartleyHe is a 20-year education veteran, with nine of those in Waco ISD. He taught for 18 years at the elementary, middle school and community school levels; he spent the past two years as assistant principal of Tennyson Middle School. He was awarded both his bachelor of arts degree in interdisciplinary studies and his master of science degree in computers in education from National University in San Diego, Calif. 


The new principal of Lake Air Middle School, Hutcherson Hill Hutcherson Hillwas most recently principal of Wood Intermediate School in Terrell ISD.  A 15-year educator, he also has been an assistant principal in Tyler ISD and a teacher in Mount Pleasant ISD. He earned his bachelor’s degree in mathematics and computer science from Jarvis Christian College, and his master’s degree in educational administration from Stephen F. Austin State University.

 

Henri Lewis, the new principal of Brazos Middle School, is an Henri Lewiseducator with 10 years of experience. She now begins her fourth year with Waco ISD, where she has served as assistant principal of Lake Air Middle School and, most recently, assistant principal of Waco High School. Her bachelor of science degree in English and secondary education was awarded from Baylor University; her master’s degree in educational administration and leadership was earned from the University of Houston.

Robin McDurham is the principal of Lake Waco Montessori Robin McDurhamSchool. She began her education career as a teacher at the school, and since 2007 she has been its assistant principal. She holds a bachelor’s degree in general studies from Northern Arizona University and a master’s degree in education from Baylor University. She is completing her doctorate in educational administration from Tarleton State University.

 

Clarence E. Simmons Jr. is the new principal of Waco High Clarence SimmonsSchool. He comes to Waco ISD with 23 years of experience. He began his career as a teacher in Temple ISD, teaching industrial technology for five years before serving as an administrator in districts in Vermont, New York and Texas. His bachelor of science degree in industrial technology was earned from West Texas State University, and his master’s degree in educational administration from Southwest Texas State University.
