Abilene ISD

Scott McLean has been selected to serve as assistant superintendent for operations. A Scott McLeanCPA and graduate of Abilene Christian University, he held the same position in Angleton ISD.

 






Ortiz Elementary School
’s new principal is Kriste O’Dell-Farias, who for the past seven years has beenKriste O'Dell-Farias the school’s instructional coordinator. An educator for 16 years, she earned her bachelor’s degree from The University of Texas at Permian Basin and her master of education degree in school administration from Angelo State University.






Roy Sharp will lead Fannin Elementary School as its principal. He spent the past 21 years with Roy SharpWoodson Center for Excellence as a teacher, truancy officer and assistant principal. He also has been a house parent at Hendrick Home for Children, a science teacher at Abilene High School, and a teacher and coach in Trent ISD. He has a bachelor’s degree from McMurry University in Abilene and a master’s degree in education from Sul Ross State University.



 

Alvarado ISD

A new business manager has been selected. Rodney Toon has been an educator for nine years Rodney Toonand comes to his new job from Alvarado Intermediate School, where he was assistant principal. He also has been a district instructional technology coordinator and a teacher and coach at Alvarado Junior High. Toon has a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Texas A&M University at Commerce and a master’s degree in administration from the University of Phoenix, from which he is also pursuing a doctorate.



Ballinger ISD

Will Brewer, who was most recently an elementary school principal in Anson ISD, is the district’s new superintendent.

Bellville ISD

New Superintendent Mike Coker arrived in Bellville from his most recent position as assistant superintendent of Prosper ISD.

Belton ISD

Susan Kincannon, who has been serving as deputy superintendent, has been named superintendent. She began her career as a teacher in the district in 2000. She also has been assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction. Kincannon has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor and a master’s degree from Tarleton State University. She recently completed her doctorate as well.

Birdville ISD

The new principal of Watauga Elementary School is Jennifer Salyards, who has served as Jennifer Salyardsthe school’s assistant principal since 2005. She was an elementary school teacher in Lubbock ISD from 1997 to 2004, coming to Birdville ISD that year to teach first grade at Foster Village Elementary. Her bachelor’s and master’s degrees are from Texas Tech University.




 

Bovina ISD

Dale Fullerton has been promoted from his job as principal of Bovina High School to districtDale Fullerton superintendent. A graduate of Eastern New Mexico University with a bachelor’s degree in physical education and master’s degrees in school administration and physical education, he has many years’ experience officiating basketball and football at both the high school and college levels in Texas and New Mexico. His education career began in the Clovis (N.M.) public schools, where he was an English teacher and coach at Marshall Junior High and Clovis High School. He then served first as assistant principal and then principal of Marshall Junior High and was the district’s athletic director for five years. Fullerton came to Bovina ISD in 2005.

Brownsville ISD

Maricela Zarate has been named human resources director for certified personnel. An educator Maricela Zaratefor 26 years, she has been principal of Central Middle School and the Alternative Education Center and assistant principal of Porter High School and the Alternative Education Campus. She began her career teaching English and history at Oliveira Middle School. Her most recent assignment has been as principal of Stillman Middle School, where she has been since 2004.



Bryan ISD

Lane Buban is the new principal of Sam Rayburn Middle School. A former science teacher and Lane Bubanmost recently assistant principal at Rayburn, he holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Texas A&M University and a second master’s degree in educational administration from Sam Houston State University.






David Ogden
, a Bryan ISD educator for 34 years, retired at the end of the 2009- 2010 school year David Ogdenfrom his position as principal of Branch Elementary School.Jason Puente

Stepping into the role of principal at Branch Elementary is Jason Puente, who has been assistant principal of Long Middle School since 2008. He also has been an assistant principal at Fannin and Neal elementary schools, and he has taught Texas history. Puente has a bachelor’s degree from Texas A&M University and a master’s degree from Sam Houston State University; he is working toward a doctorate in public school administration.

Corsicana ISD

Diane Frost is the new superintendent. She has been a classroom teacher, a district administrator, interim superintendent of Carroll ISD and deputy superintendent at Lake Travis ISD. Her bachelor’s degree was earned from Athens State College in Alabama, her master’s degree from the University of Tennessee and her Ph.D. from the University of North Texas.

Crosby ISD

Keith Moore is the district’s new superintendent. He has served as a classroom teacher, high school principal, technology director, head of secondary curriculum, and federal programs director. Moore comes to his new position from Corsicana ISD, where he was assistant superintendent.

Crowley ISD

Dan Powell has been named superintendent after serving as interim superintendent since January. Dan PowellPowell began his career as an educator in 1974 as an instructional aide in Fort Worth ISD’s Westcliff Elementary, moving to serve as a classroom teacher in that district’s Carlson Elementary. He spent the next 23 years in Fort Worth ISD, advancing from teacher to fill roles as a curriculum specialist and evaluator; Title I evaluator; director of planning, research and evaluation; and assistant superintendent. Powell is a former principal of Southwest High School. He left Fort Worth in 1997 and was superintendent of Everman ISD until 2004.

 

Dayton ISD

Michael Kuhrt, formerly superintendent of Giddings ISD, has been appointed superintendent. After earning a bachelor of arts degree in government from The University of Texas and a master’s degree from the University of Texas at Arlington, he was a middle school principal in Giddings ISD. Kuhrt received his superintendent certification after completing the cooperative superintendency program at The University of Texas.

ESC Region 13

Terry Smith, formerly executive director of ESC Region 20 in San Antonio, has made the move to Terry SmithAustin to lead ESC Region 13. He began his career in 1984 as an agricultural sciences teacher in Southland ISD, taking his first administrative position three years later as assistant director of special education and vocational special needs coordinator in Slaton ISD. He returned to Southland in 1992 as the district’s superintendent, remaining in that position until 1996, when he accepted an appointment as a field service agent for ESC Region 20 in San Antonio. Next, he served as Region 20’s component director in information systems consulting services. From 2000 to 2003, he was in Austin as Region 13’s deputy director for administrative services, after which he returned to San Antonio as Region 20’s executive director. Smith holds two bachelor’s degrees from Texas Tech University (one in agricultural economics and one in agricultural education) and a master’s degree in educational administration from that institution. His doctorate in educational administration is from Texas A&M University.

Frisco ISD

Mooneyham Elementary School has named Jamie Flemmer as its assistant principal. An educator Jamie Flemmerfor six years, she has a bachelor’s degree from East Central University at Ada, Okla., and a master’s degree in educational administration from Concordia University in Austin.







Jerry Littlejohn
has been named assistant athletic director. He has been an educator for 21 years Jerry Littlejohn— 18 of those with Frisco ISD. He came to the district as a math teacher and coach in 1992. He has coached football, baseball and golf and has served as an assistant principal. His last assignment was associate principal at Wakeland High School. Littlejohn’s bachelor’s degree is from Centenary College in Louisiana and his master’s degree is from the University of North Texas.




Jodi Jordan
, formerly a music teacher at Elliott Elementary, is the new assistant principal Jodi Jordanof the school. An educator with 12 years of experience, she has a bachelor’s degree in music from the University of Georgia and a master’s degree from Georgia State University.







The new principal of Elliott Elementary School is Stacy Mills, who helped to open the school in Stacy Mills2008 as its assistant principal. She began her career in 1972 and has been with Frisco ISD since 1984. She has been a classroom teacher and a reading recovery teacher leader. She was the district’s dyslexia coordinator before becoming assistant principal of Rogers Elementary. She is a graduate of Stephen F. Austin State University.

 

 

 

Gatesville ISD

Darrell Frazier, most recently assistant principal of Gatesville High School, is now the district’s business manager. A CPA, he came to Gatesville ISD in 2007 to accept his most recent position. Prior to that, he taught French for four years in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. He also has 13 years of experience as an administrator in private schools in Louisiana, Ohio and Texas. Frazier holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting and a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in mass communications from Abilene Christian University. In addition, he has a master’s degree in education from Xavier University in Cincinnati, OH.

Goliad ISD

Christy Paulsgrove is not only the new superintendent but also the first woman to serve in the top job in Goliad ISD. She first worked in Goliad ISD as a speech pathologist. An educator for 35 years, Paulsgrove has served at every elementary and middle school campus in the district as a teacher or principal. At one point, she retired for two years, but then she returned to education in her most recent position as intermediate principal.

Gonzales ISD

Kim Strozier, most recently Willis ISD’s assistant superintendent for curriculum and accountability, is the district’s new superintendent. A native of Willis, she earned a bachelor’s degree in education, a master’s degree in education and a doctorate in education leadership from Sam Houston State University. She was first a teacher’s aide and then an elementary school teacher in Willis ISD. This was followed by a stint as a teacher in Colorado, after which she returned to Texas to spend two years teaching elementary school in Conroe. Strozier took a break from public education to operate a private day care center, coming back to Willis in 1994 to serve as an elementary school assistant principal, elementary principal, and assistant superintendent of curriculum and accountability.

Hamilton ISD

The new superintendent is John Craft. He began as a teacher and coach at Carroll Junior High John CraftSchool, and then he taught biology and coached football, basketball and football at Carroll High School. He was Carroll ISD’s textbook coordinator for three years before becoming assistant principal at Carroll High, where he remained until taking his most recent position as principal of Timberview High School in Mansfield ISD in 2008. Also, since 2008, he has served as the University Interscholastic League’s district chairman for district 8-4A. Craft earned his bachelor of science degree from the University of North Texas, from which he also holds a master’s degree in educational administration. His doctorate in educational administration is from Tarleton State University.

Hart ISD

Formerly of Muleshoe ISD, Alex Salazar is Hart ISD’s new superintendent. He began his career in Alex Salazar1997 in Floydada ISD as a varsity and junior varsity coach and Spanish and ESL teacher. He then moved to Fort Worth ISD’s Paschal High School, where he served for two years as assistant principal before becoming summer school principal at the district’s alternative campus. Next, he was assistant principal at Fort Worth ISD’s Rosemont Middle School, followed by service as Rosemont’s summer school principal. He completed his time in Fort Worth as assistant principal of Arlington Heights High School before taking on the role of principal in Muleshoe ISD’s high school in 2007. Salazar is a cum laude graduate of Texas Tech University with a bachelor of science degree. He earned his master of education degree from Texas Woman’s University.

Hurst-Euless-Bedford ISD

Mike Fielder, who was assistant athletic director for the past five years, is the new athletic Mike Fielderdirector. Before joining the district, he served in Whitesboro and Birdville ISDs and at the Oakridge School in Arlington. His bachelor’s degree is from The University of Texas at Arlington and his master’s degree is from Grand Canyon University.






Scott Forester
, a Hurst native, is the new assistant superintendent for technology. He returns Scott Foresterto the district after spending 1990-1991 as a teacher at Bedford Junior High and then at Birdville ISD since that time. He holds a bachelor’s degree from The University of Texas at Arlington and a master’s degree from the University of North Texas.






The new director of maintenance is Josh Minor, who comes from Southwestern Baptist Theological Josh MinorSeminary, where he served in a similar capacity for the past eight years. His bachelor’s degree is from the University of North Texas.







Another returnee to the district is Dietra Tutle, who has been named coordinator of quality Dietra Tutlelearning. She has more than 30 years’ experience as a teacher in districts throughout the state, serving Hurst-Euless- Bedford ISD as coordinator of continuous improvement from 2006 to 2008. For the past two years, she has been with Crowley ISD. Her bachelor’s degree was earned at Texas Tech University and her master’s degree is from The University of Texas at Arlington.

Kountze ISD


The new superintendent is Jon Ellis, who has been serving as interim superintendent. He began his career as a high school agriculture science teacher in Dayton ISD, then took on the same responsibilities in Goose Creek CISD and Kountze ISD. From there he went on to become assistant principal of the district’s middle school and then served as supervisor of special services, director of administrative services and assistant superintendent of Kountze ISD. Ellis earned an associate degree at Kilgore College, followed by a bachelor of science degree in agricultural education from Texas A&M University and a master’s degree in vocational education from Sam Houston State University. Both his administrative and superintendent certifications are from Stephen F. Austin State University.

Lamar CISD

Brian Moore is the district’s new director of research and accountability. Most recently the testing coordinator for Channelview ISD, he also has been a teacher and an assistant principal. His bachelor’s degree in history and master’s degree in education technology are from Texas A&M University.

The new director of special education is Megan Whitley. In addition to being a counselor in private practice, she has been special education coordinator and director of special education in Fort Bend ISD; director of special education in Geary County School District in Kansas; a principal and director of special education in Wabaunsee East School District, also in Kansas; and a Scott Forester professor at the University of Houston and Houston Baptist University. Whitley’s bachelor’s and master’s degrees in school psychology were earned from Emporia State University in Kansas, and her doctorate in educational administration is from Kansas State University.

Lubbock ISD

Joel Castro is the new associate superintendent for quadrants 3 and 4. He comes to Lubbock fJoel Castrorom Houston ISD, where he was principal of that district’s top-rated East Early College High School. In his new position, he will oversee all schools in the attendance zones of Estacado and Lubbock high schools. Before his most recent position with Houston ISD, he was a principal, coordinator of instructional technology, and an elementary and middle school teacher.




Julie A. Sims
will lead Wester Elementary School as its principal. She was previously assistant Julie A. Simsprincipal of McWhorter and Ramirez elementary schools. Her career began as a teacher in Midland ISD, where she also served as a crisis counselor and assistant principal. A graduate of Hardin-Simmons University, she earned her master’s degree from The University of Texas at Permian Basin.





Joe Williams
has been appointed principal of Monterey High School. Most recently the principal of Roberts Elementary, he has more than 14 years’ experience as a principal.

Midland ISD

Ryder Warren is the new superintendent. He comes to his new position from Marble Falls ISD, where Ryder Warrenhe held the position of superintendent since 2003. Prior to that time, he was superintendent of Crane and Thorndale ISDs, principal of Whiteface Junior/Senior High School in Whiteface CISD and principal of Crosbyton Middle School in Crosbyton ISD. He also was a teacher and coach at Georgetown High School in Georgetown ISD and an adjunct instructor at Texas Tech University. Warren has a bachelor’s degree from Angelo State University and a master’s degree in educational administration from Southwest Texas State University (now Texas State University). His doctorate in educational leadership was earned from Texas Tech University.

Midlothian ISD

A new superintendent has been named for the district. He is Jerome Stewart, who formerly held the same position in Canton ISD.

Moran ISD

Robert Rauch, formerly a principal in the district, is now the superintendent.

Muenster ISD

Clay Richerson is now the superintendent. He was formerly a high school principal in Stamford ISD. He began his career in Hereford ISD, teaching physical and earth science at La Plata Junior High. He then made a move to Pampa ISD, where he taught algebra and pre-algebra for three years. He subsequently taught high school math in White Deer and Meadow ISDs and math and science in Loop ISD. Along with teaching, Richerson coached basketball and football in those districts. He became an administrator in 2000, when he served as principal of Olton High School in Olton ISD; this was followed by secondary principal assignments in Nazareth and Stamford ISDs. Richerson’s bachelor’s degree in math and chemistry education is from West Texas State University in Canyon, and his master of education degree is from Sul Ross State University.

Navarro ISD

A newly created position, academic dean, will be filled by Rebecca Newton. She began working in Navarro ISD nine years ago as a paraprofessional and has been a teacher for eight years, teaching math, secondary business, parts of the district’s dual credit program, English and computer skills.

Nederland ISD

A new superintendent has been chosen. He is Robert E. Madding, who has been serving as the district’s interim superintendent.

New Deal ISD

The new superintendent, Stephen McCray, has been promoted from his prior position as assistantStephen McCray superintendent. He has been with the district since 2001, serving as a high school principal for five years before taking on his most recent position. He began his career in 1986 teaching and coaching in Clovis, N.M., followed by assignments in Lansing, Kan., and in Texas with Amarillo ISD. His first administrative position came in 1997, when he was assistant principal of Randall High School in Canyon ISD. McCray earned his bachelor’s degree in social studies from Eastern New Mexico University and his master’s degree in administration from West Texas A&M University. His superintendent certification is from Texas Tech University.

Northwest ISD (Fort Worth)

Gary Gindt is the new assistant superintendent for administrative services. He is a graduate of Baylor University and was previously the superintendent of Decatur ISD and assistant superintendent of Weatherford ISD.

Perryton ISD

Robert Hall has been tapped to serve as superintendent. He previously was principal of Williams Intermediate School in the district.

Post ISD

Mike Comeaux is the new superintendent. He began his career as a coach and Texas history teacher at his alma mater in West Orange-Stark CISD. After two years in that position, he transferred to coach and teach high school world history in Deweyville ISD. A year later he moved to Port Arthur ISD to teach and coach at Austin High School. He subsequently returned to Deweyville, where, after a year, he accepted an invitation to serve as athletic director and head coach. He next went to Lumberton ISD to take on responsibilities for textbooks, building maintenance and creating a ninth grade center. Hurricane Rita in 2005 gave Comeaux the incentive to move to North Texas to be near family; he spent the next three years in Palmer ISD as principal of Palmer High School before accepting his new role in Post. Comeaux earned his bachelor’s degree in kinesiology at Lamar University in Beaumont, where he also got his master’s degree in administration.

Rivercrest ISD

Rivercrest ISD hired Charlie Martin as its new superintendent. He comes to his new job from Clarksville ISD, where he served as assistant superintendent.

San Vicente ISD

Longtime educator Shirley M. Coleman, superintendent of San Vicente ISD since 1995, has retired. An educator since 1970, she taught in Pecos-Barstow-Toyah CISD and served as an elementary principal in Bronte ISD and as a central office administrator in Victoria and Lancaster ISDs. In addition, she was an assistant professor at Sul Ross State University and an adjunct professor at the University of Houston at Victoria. She earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees at Sul Ross, and she did doctoral work at The University of Texas.

Replacing Coleman as superintendent is Eric Stoddard, who was most recently superintendent of Loraine ISD. He began his education career in 1977 as an industrial arts/woodworking teacher in Dallas ISD. He served in the same capacity in Garland ISD and then moved to Cedar Hill ISD to work as a computer applications teacher at Cedar Hill High School. He next was junior and senior high principal in Coolidge ISD, before moving to Kermit ISD to be that district’s high school principal.

Sanger ISD

Kent Crutsinger has been selected to serve as superintendent. He was most recently interimKent Crutsinger superintendent of Little Elm ISD.




 

 

Southwest ISD (San Antonio)

The new assistant superintendent of administration and human resources is Jeanette Ball. Jeanette BallAn employee of the district since 1995, she began as a teacher at McNair Middle School, transferring to serve as assistant principal of Big Country Elementary three years later. She next was principal of that school before becoming director of staff development and, most recently, executive director of employee and student services, a position she has held for the past five years. Ball earned a bachelor of arts degree from Schreiner University in Kerrville and a master of arts degree from The University of Texas at San Antonio. She will complete her doctorate in public education administration from Texas A&M University this year.

Lloyd Verstuyft has been named superintendent. A graduate of Southwest High School, he returned Lloyd Verstuyftto San Antonio to complete his bachelor’s degree at The University of Texas at San Antonio after attending Lubbock Christian College and Texas Tech University. He then completed his master’s degree in educational administration at Texas A&M University at Kingsville and his doctorate at Texas A&M University in College Station. He joined Southwest ISD as a teacher at his alma mater. His 20 years with the district have included teaching, coaching and serving as a middle school assistant principal and principal, high school principal and executive director of administration and pupil services. His most recent assignment was as assistant superintendent for administration and human resources, a position he held since 2005.

Stockdale ISD

Paul Darilek is the new superintendent. A graduate of Southwest Texas State University (now Texas State University) with a master’s degree in education from the University of Houston at Victoria, he was superintendent of Vysehrad ISD for the past six years.

Texhoma ISD

Hope Appel is taking on duties as superintendent for a very special district. Her district straddles Hope Appelthe Texas- Oklahoma border, with grades pre-K through fourth in Texas and grades five through 12th in Oklahoma. Each state is responsible for funding and staffing its schools and administrations. Appel began her career in Higgins ISD as a secondary science teacher, progressing to serve as director of technology, assistant principal and principal and, ultimately, superintendent, a role she filled since 2005. She earned both her bachelor’s degree in natural science education and her master’s degree in secondary education administration from Northwestern Oklahoma State University.


Tomball ISD

Tomball Intermediate School has Bob Frost as its principal. An educator for 17 years, he has beenBob Frost with Splendora ISD for the past four. His career has included stints as principal of a pre-K through sixth grade campus, a middle school principal, and a high school associate and assistant principal. Both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees are from Stephen F. Austin State University.





Tulia ISD

Steve Post is the district’s new superintendent. He has spent the past three years as director of student services in Abilene ISD and was also superintendent of Rosebud- Lott ISD, principal and superintendent of Wylie ISD and a school finance specialist for ESC Region 14. His bachelor’s degree is from Hardin-Simmons University and his master’s degree is from Sul Ross State University.

Tyler ISD

Tyler High School will have Shon Joseph as its principal when the school year begins. He was previously the school’s associate principal. An educator for 13 years, he began his career in Louisiana with Monroe City Schools as a speech teacher and coach. Subsequent assignments included Dallas, Wylie and Duncanville ISDs, and he was most recently principal of Palestine High School. His bachelor’s degree was earned from McNeese State University in Lake Charles, La., and his master’s degree in education administration from the University of North Texas.

Uvalde CISD

Richard Loesch is the new superintendent. He most recently held the same position in Wolfe City ISD and previously served as an assistant superintendent for Princeton ISD. He also has been a high school principal in Whitewright ISD, an assistant principal in Rockwall ISD, and a teacher and history department coordinator in Mineral Wells ISD.

Victoria ISD

Kimberly Barker comes to her new role as principal of Chandler Elementary School from Decatur Kimberly BarkerISD, where she led Carson Elementary. Before becoming an administrator, she was an elementary teacher and was Keller ISD’s Elementary Teacher of the Year for 2003-2004. Her bachelor of science degree in elementary education with early childhood specialization is from Baylor University, and her master’s degree in curriculum and instruction is from The University of Texas at Arlington.




Debbie Crick
will move from her current position as principal of Howell Middle School to lead VictoriaDebbie Crick West High School as its principal when the new school opens in August. She has been with Victoria ISD for 16 years, beginning as an elementary school teacher. She earned her bachelor of business administration degree in marketing from Texas A&M University at Corpus Christi and her master of education degree in administration and supervision from the University of Houston at Victoria.




Lynn Guerra
, assistant principal of Dudley Magnet School since 2005, is the new principal ofLynn Guerra Schorlemmer Elementary. She also has been a classroom teacher for Victoria ISD and in private schools. Her bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies and her master’s degree in administration and supervision were both earned from the University of Houston at Victoria.






James Taylor
will take the role of principal of Rowland Elementary School. He began his career as James Tayloran elementary school teacher in both general and special education; he has served as assistant principal of Crain Middle School since 2005. His bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies and master’s degree in administration and supervision are from the University of Houston at Victoria.
